Please pencil in Saturday the 13th of October for a neighborhood party.
Our neighborhood, and the city, in years past has participated in National Night Out. This is an excellent program and we still support the idea, but being held in August every year worked fine in some areas but presented problems here in Texas. An alternative program has developed called Nightwatch and in conjunction with the city we have switched our participation.
This provides a great opportunity to get eveyone together and catch up, meet some new neighbors, and enjoy good barbeque. Starting at 4pm we will have food, drinks, a clown for the kids, face painting, a bounce house, and visits from local dignitaries as well as the police and fire departments. If each family would bring a dish - salad, side, dessert, we’ll take care of the rest.
It’s always nice to receive a little recognition and Grapevine did just that in the latest issue of Money magazine. In selecting the cities and towns this year Money magazine stated that they
focused on smaller places that offered the best combination of economic opportunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do and a real sense of community.
If that doesn’t sound like Grapevine, then I don’t know what does! You can find the article here.
If you’re peeking in to see if anything is going on in Silver Lake, please be assured that there’s plenty in the works. This new website is one and we appreciate your patience as we redo things around here a little bit. Like many of you are doing, we thought the web site was looking a little worn and decided to give it a fresh coat of paint and spruce it up some. Keep checking back as we keep you up to date on the latest in the neighborhood and also what we have in store for the fall.
Thanks for stopping by.
